Lagos State Government is set to dis-lodge all shanties within and around Lekki Peninsula Scheme I.
This was disclosed by the General Manager, Lagos State, New Towns Development Authority (NTDA) Mr. Wasiu Akewusola at a stakeholders' meeting held recently with the Lekki Residents' Association (LERA) .
Further, Mr. Akewusola stated that the demolition exercise is meant to improve the environment and upgrade security of life and property of the residents of the area, hence squatters and illegal occupants who daily constitute social menace in the estate will be ejected from the area.
He added that ensuring a friendly environment is one of the vision of the administration of His Excellency, Mr. Akiwunmi Ambode. To this end, no illegal structure or shanties will be accommodated or allowed within the Lekki Peninsula Scheme I.
Mr.Wasiu Akewusola consequently urge residents of the Lekki Peninsula Scheme I to continue giving their support to Gorvernor Ambode administration by providing timely, relevant and accurate information or whistle blow the government on environmental degradation or when they notice any shanties that are developing in their areas.
In his own remark,the President, Lekki Residents Association (LERA) Prof. Olumide Ajose applaud Lagos State Government for its determination to bring back sanity to the area and pledge the Association's solidarity and support.
He however appealed to the State Government to fashion out modalities of constantly dis-lodging social miscreants who are predominantly not Nigerians stressing that their activities in the area have become an eye sore.
