LAGOS STATE NEW TOWNS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (NTDA) ATTRACTS INTEREST FROM OYO STATE AS EXECUTIVE ADVISER UNDERTAKES STUD

The Lagos State New Towns Development Authority (NTDA) hosted a high-level delegation from Oyo State, led by the Executive Adviser on New Towns and Cities Development, Mrs. Adebiyi Mofoluke, on a study visit aimed at learning from Lagos State's successful urban planning and development strategies.

Receiving the delegation, the General Manager , New Towns Development Authority (NTDA ) , Tpl. Olakunle Aboyeji highlighted Lagos State’s strides in scheme development and its resilient approach to urban management. He shared an overview of the Authority’s core functions, including the Review of Development Schemes, Site Selection to MDA's and Private Developers, Establiment of Schemes and Provision of Site and Services , Developing Control and Monitoring of Schemes in handling of encroachments and provision of meaningful infrastructures in Government Estates.

He emphasized the importance of professional expertise—such as town planners, engineers, and architects—in driving the development of new towns and cities. He advised the Oyo State team to establish key departments such as Development Control and Estate Management to enable optimal performance and address emerging challenges in urban development.

Tpl. Aboyeji , further cited examples of how NTDA ensures the functionality of its schemes, including the provision of essential infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, electricity, and water reticulation. These efforts, he noted, enhance the livability of estates and attract greater participation from private sector developers.

He also commended the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for its robust support of NTDA’s operations and development plans.

Head of Town Planning Services , Tpl. Olushola Orebiyi, , provided an insight of NTDA's approach to scheme development, referencing models such as Private Sector Development Scheme ( PSDS ) , Site and Services Scheme, Mixed Use Scheme Development and Public-Private Partnership ( PPP ).

Director of Infrastructure, Engr. M. O. Akanbi, added that the presence of well-planned infrastructure is crucial to attracting residents and investors to new estates.

Earlier , the Secretary and Head of Administrative and Human Resources, Mrs. Titilayo Noibi,officially welcomed the Oyo State delegation on behalf of the General Manager NTDA . She familiarized the structure of the Authority to the learning visitors, which comprises four major departments and nine functional units, explaining the roles and responsibilities of each.

In her remarks, Oyo State, Executive Adviser on New Towns and Cities Development , Mrs. Adebiyi Mofoluke expressed gratitude for the warm reception and invaluable insights shared. She noted that Lagos State's model of satellite town development offers a blueprint that can be replicated in Oyo State. She lauded the NTDA for its visionary leadership and thanked the management team for their hospitality and knowledge-sharing.
